The 3nd Trailer Season - 2005/2006 I have to admit that I dont' remember all the specifics leading up to Eddypolusa 4 and the trailers, just that I knew I wanted to start putting something out and getting them out soon. If more comes back to me I'll write it down but at this point we really had hit our stride, everyone knew trailers were coming and so I had to get to work. Simple as that!
"FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE - TEASER" I don't remember where I got this video, the fat man in yellow singing in falsetto about Praising things and what not, but I got it, it blew my mind and I knew I had to use it. It was part a jab at the crazies that religions tend to pull toward themselves and also had a decent line "fearfully and wonderfully made." Add in a bouncing TomO and BAM! - instant trailer. I think I e-mailed Tom something like "can I use your head as a bouncing ball for a trailer" to which he replied "frightened and very curious but yes of course." Man, I love my friends.
"LAST YEAR...(in case you missed it)" This trailer was inspired by a decent movie called The Rules of Attraction, when one of the characters recaps his entire European vacation in a matter of ninety seconds. Although the movie was just ok, I thought that bit was great and perfect for a trailer. So sitting down at my desk, I wrote everything I wanted to say after reviewing the footage and then after three takes I had the audio. I laid it down and fit the video to it and it really fell together perfectly. I also wanted to use the Polyphonic Spree song Light & Day / Reach for the Sun and the build up and then eventual pay off just fit. It probably was my favorite for the season, largely because it ribbed the people that skipped the party for lame excuses!
"NEED A BREAK ?" Around the time I put this trailer together I started really looking at everything I had done up to that point and felt that for the most part, they were all the same. Fast paced song, titles on the screen, build...build, then big pay off and eventually the logo. Hey, it's what I do and I think I do it well, but I wanted to do something different. So I sat down with Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" and went to work. The first version didn't have the montage opening and just didn't feel right, it wasn't saying what I wanted it to - which was Eddypolusa can be a very relaxing weekend as well as a big party. So snyping clips from the net, I put together the opening using a Rage song and the actual song bites played over one another. In the end, the idea in my head was better but I was still happy with the trailer.
"LIFE LIKE A MOVIE - Official Invite" This was going to be my big one, my Citizen Kane, the one to out do "Fix You." In my head, this played out like true genious. As many of my friends know, I tend to live my life for the stories that you eventually get to tell and in doing so often end up living my life like something out of a bad Hollywood movie. So that was the concept for this trailer, take footage from previous years and show the similarities to movies and TV shows. But in the process, capturing the films and TV proved more difficult than originally thought, as did the side by side comparisons while trying to keep it all trailer length. The opening graphics are written in the standard screenplay format and font to set the tone, with standard sappy 80's hair rock to match TomO's soliloquy that was eventually interupted by Chris quoting "Old School." In looking back at it, I really am happy with how it turned out, from the mix of music and comparisons to the Anchorman quote slowing things down with a bit of "oh shit, he's right." By the time the Weezer hits and we push to the end, I was knida mailing it in, quick clips and cheesy graphics but for an official invite, I think it works.
